About Us

We are a community of nineteen Carmelite Nuns living close to the

Irish National Marian Shrine in Knock, Co. Mayo. Ireland – not far from the ‘Wild Atlantic Way’.

Forming part of the great variety of nuns and monks of different traditions and Orders,

we are called to live a contemplative life as Pope Francis says: “- in profound communion

with every other vocation of the Christian life – all of which are like so many rays of the one light

of Christ, whose radiance brightens the face of the Church. Contemplatives devote a great

part of their day to imitating the Mother of God, who diligently pondered the words and deeds

of her Son, Jesus, and Mary of Bethany, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened attentively to

His words. The lives of contemplatives, ‘hidden with Christ in God’, become an image of the

unconditional love of the Lord – Himself the first contemplative.”

The Holy Spirit has led each of us here to our Carmelite vocation. Ours is most certainly not a

more ‘perfect way’, (as some mistakenly think!) – just one way among many of witnessing to the endless

mystery of God and His plan for humankind. In these pages we wish to share a little of what

that means to us.
